We are excited to present a series of enriching workshops designed to enhance your skills and knowledge in various aspects of Speech and Language Therapy (SLT). With a limited number of spots available, these workshops offer a unique opportunity to learn from industry experts and engage in interactive, professional development sessions. Each workshop is carefully curated to provide practical insights and innovative strategies that you can apply in your practice.

WP1. Multi-professional collaborations for building research capacity in SLT practice

Speaker: Hazel Roddam

 

For the past three years, Hazel Roddam has led a national Research Strategy agenda for 14 UK Allied Health professional associations. This workshop will provide an overview of this initiative, emphasizing the importance of integrating research capabilities into all practice roles. Attendees will learn about collaborative efforts to create research training resources and establish mentorship networks, benefiting both large and smaller professional associations. Participants will also help build a "Heatmap" of existing research support and identify potential collaborative partnerships.

WP2. Implementing Novel Technologies for the Treatment of Neurocognitive Deficits

Speaker: Fofi Constantinidou

 

This workshop will present research evidence on using the Categorization Program (CP) combined with transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) in treating chronic brain injury. Attendees will learn about the significant gains in cognitive function achieved through this integrative approach and explore the feasibility of applying these methods to address neurocognitive deficits associated with Long-COVID.

WP3. “Use it or lose it” – the “IVTP – Six Voice Care Exercises by Evemarie Haupt”

Speaker: Sara Forer-Kaufmann

 

The workshop emphasizes the importance of maintaining vocal health through the IVTP (Integrative Voice Therapy and Voice Pedagogy). Participants will learn six structured voice care exercises designed to promote vocal performance and flexibility. These exercises, based on the “IVTP-Voice Function Circle” and the concept of “Voice is Balance,” can be easily incorporated into daily life, helping to improve vocal expression and overall quality of life.

WP4. Relational Acupuncture for Voice Professionals: Fusing Ancient Tradition with Modern Science

Speaker: Caroline Van Looy

 

The workshop integrates ancient acupuncture with modern neurophysiological research to enhance the well-being of voice professionals. Addressing the growing interest in holistic healthcare within voice and speech therapy, it combines theory with hands-on practice through didactic elements, case studies, discussions, Q&A, and self-guided needling. The workshop introduces acupuncture history and practice, highlighting key points like LI-4 and LU-11 for voice conditions. It aims to expand speech therapists' clinical repertoire with acupuncture, enhancing patient care and quality of life.

WP5. Systematic Parental Guidance for Parents of Stuttering Children

Speaker: Ronny Boey

 

This workshop explores the impact of a child's stuttering on parental stress and quality of life. It covers general stress processing, provides clinical examples, and discusses research findings using the VOKIS questionnaire. The workshop highlights how coping mechanisms, support, and concerns about stuttering contribute to parental stress. It also suggests therapeutic interventions like parental guidance and improved child supervision to reduce stress and enhance parents' quality of life.
